Mr. Shishir Bajaj is the former Chairman of the Bajaj Group and the current Chairman of Bajaj Foundation – the group’s philanthropic arm. One of India’s most respected businessmen, Mr. Bajaj joined the Bajaj Group of companies in 1974 and served in a number of key positions, growing the group’s business footprint and diversifying its interests.
Understated yet fiercely independent, Mr. Bajaj is known for his strategic vision and ability to drive growth in the most challenging circumstances. As Chairman of Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Ltd. from 1999 to 2014, he oversaw the rapid expansion of the group’s sugar and distillery business that made it India’s largest producer of sugar and ethanol. He also laid the foundation for the group’s energy business, which at 2430 MW of installed capacity, makes it the top Independent Power Producer (IPP) in the state of Uttar Pradesh, and one of the largest in the country. Additionally, he’s credited with the expansion of the group’s traditional hair oil business, transforming it into Bajaj Consumer Care – one of the country’s leading FMCG companies.
Besides his professional achievements, Mr. Bajaj is known for his deep commitment to CSR, social welfare and philanthropy. He’s devoted significant time and resources to promoting causes of social welfare as the Chairman of Bajaj Foundation. A lifelong champion of leveraging business potential for driving positive change in the society, Mr. Bajaj combines his business acumen, reach, and commitment to push for causes such as sustainable agriculture, education, people empowerment and institution building.
Mr. Bajaj holds an MBA in Finance from New York University and has completed the Owner President Management programme from Harvard Business School.
